Prof. Zlatko Fras, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC, FRCP (Lond)

Biography

Prof. Zlatko Fras is a leading cardiologist and professor at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana. He was awarded his academical (MD (1990), MSc (1994), PhD (2008)) degrees at Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana (FM-UL), and is licensed Specialist of both (1) Internal Medicine and (2) Cardiology & Vascular Medicine. His clinical activities encompass different aspects in cardiovascular medicine, while his scientific work is focused on atherosclerosis and disorders of lipid metabolism, epidemiology and preventive cardiology. From 2008 he holds position of Medical Director, Division of Medicine, at the UMC Ljubljana, and Professor of Internal Medicine (focus CVD), at the FM-UL. He served as state appointed Chairman of the Slovene National Programme on CVD Prevention, and President of the Slovenian Society of Cardiology. In 2001 he was elected as Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, in 2013 of the American College of Cardiology, and 2022 of the Royal College of Physicians (Lond). He served as President of the European Union of Medical Specialists (2006-11). He is (co-)author of >900 scientific units - full list available online at www.cobiss.si - national scientific bibliography system, out of which >160 are cited in PubMed (index h10=62). With extensive publications, he is a key figure in Slovenia’s cardiology community, contributing to ESC initiatives and mentoring clinicians regionally.
